PostSubject: An alternative - TMDb   Thu Feb 23, 2017 10:25 am

First of I wanna say I love this place. I think this place is a good alternative for right now. With that said, I don't think this place can last forever. We're gonna be stuck with the same people and we're going to need fresh blood eventually.

I've been looking for alternatives if anyone is interested. A few days ago I found out about TMDb (The Movie Datebase). It's basically a less popular (but quickly growing) version of IMDb.

TMDb (The Movie Database)
https://www.themoviedb.org

If you want something promising and with a future then TMDb is the place to go.

Plus+
They have forums for shows and people just like IMDb did.

A lot of people from IMDb immigrated to that site.

The owner is quickly adding new features to the forums every day.

Negatives-
The forums take some getting used to. It's a bit hard to navigate at first.

Another one is ...

IMDb2
http://imdb2.freeforums.net

I saw a few people promoting this site before the boards got deleted and I was surprised how fast this site got off the ground.

Plus+
They have other 2000 members.

They have a board for every IMDb board including the Games: OG board.

Negatives-
It's a Proboards site.

There's another place I have in mind but I'll let Jimmy tell you about it.

I agree we need to be somewhere with a larger userbase where people can stumble in and out of our games community. I saw the TMDB one last week but couldn't really figure out how to navigate it (not that I tried very hard.) But aside from that it seems like the most promising alternative.

It's hard to navigate and if I'm being completely honest it kinda sucks on the phone but it shows promise for improvement.

I was just looking at these, the first one has a very weird layout. Looks like its more focused on movie information than its boards. The second one looks more promising. Not sure what the negatives of a proboards site are though? But like I said, this forum is just for us, the other games community, to keep in touch in the aftermath of the #boardpocalypse

I am totally on board to go somewhere with more potential to get new blood (but not reddit, reddit is weird Laughing )

I haven't even tried Reddit nor do I want to.

I'll be posting here when Survivor starts and hopefully it'll pick up steam.

Reddit isn't horrible, in my opinion. I'm on there quite a bit, but mostly reading. I preferred it to the IMDB boards toward the end.

Yeah, I like reading Reddit, I go on the Survivor one, and the Game of Thrones and Harry Potter ones, but I just lurk, I haven't posted, too lazy to try to figure out what my account is, I know I made one a long time ago.

I think it's time we started to look for a replacement IMDb. One with plenty of traffic, for other users to find us. We've been quite a while now. We really need some new people at this point. There aren't that many regular posters on here, much less than I imagined there'd be. I haven't got a clue where we should go, other people are good at that sort of thing. Laughing

A little warning, TMDb is great on paper but they have over controlling mods.

I checked out both and honestly, I think the 2nd choice is the more promising of the 2. I have been to the OG Board of imdb v2 and there's a lot of people who post on the OG Board there, so there are very many candidates for new blood.

TMDb, on the other hand, seems like it'll be hard to navigate and will just come out looking awkward, but I guess that's what happens when there are only 4 main options on the menu.

It seems a good alternative. I was on it earlier. If it has plenty of traffic, I think we should go. Something tells me we won't go anywhere though Laughing and we'll just sit here on this forum and watch the numbers dwindle until people mostly just talk through Skype. It has to be done collectively. There's two choices. Stay here and eventually it'll come to an end, or continue on an open forum and allow new people to join. Simple choice really.
