Thoughts? I am so conflicted right now. On the one hand, this is obviously not the SAW that I fell in love with. It's so different, tone, and everything. Plus this trailer kind of gives it a comedy horror-ish tone? That silly song over the trailer doesn't help lol.

But on the other hand, after being such a huge fan and follower of the franchise for many years, the "last" movie was so bad, it almost pissed me off that they made it the "last one". So I'm hoping this new movie takes this bad taste left away.

I will do with this movie what I do with every new season of survivor, keep my expectations really low lol. But the trailer wasn't bad so it gives me a little hope.

It doesn't seem comedic at all to me. Ii like the chains aroudn the necks and being pulled in haha slice them mutha fuckas up! I've only seen Saw and Saw 2. Don't really interest me. This trailer seems pretty good though.

I feel the same as Henry. I picked up sort of an "off" tone as well, and based on what I've read thus far, it very well was intentional since the filmmakers feel that the nature of the horror has changed since the 2000s. Many horrors then consisted of torture, but now the paranormal and psychological thrillers are back in style. As far as the trailer goes, I guess it's not so much comedic as it seems self-aware and kooky which may not translate well to such a franchise known for brutality and seriousness. For instance, the saw falling and narrowly getting the girl seems to be going for laughs, just like the girl whose intestines spilled out in the seventh movie as her boyfriends failed to save her. The tone from the trailer in all honesty reminded me a great deal of the seventh movie, which as Henry said was bad. So, yeah, I didn't see much to impress me about the trailer but it helps to go into this with low expectations.

There's still something to be said for them to be bringing back such a notorious and well-connected franchise after a seven-year hiatus. I'll be interested to see where they go with the story and how connected to the original events it will be. Yet, like my thoughts on 2016's Blair Witch, I just can't shake this feeling that the fans of the originals will hate this. I feel too much time has passed for it to feel like a real Saw movie.

By the way, Jeepers Creepers 3 is coming out this fall too, right? That is one that I'm legit excited for.

Looks so good. I love the traps in this trailer and the little bit of comic tone too. Very nice.

Alright, I loooove this poster. It's definitely creepier than the ones they had for the last few films (Saw 3D had one of the dumbest posters ever)

Even if this movie ends up being shet, I am just so excited to see it. I miss being excited for the new Saw movie to come out and the tradition of going to see them opening day Laughing

I wasn't looking forward to Jigsaw until tonight, when I watched 6 Plots - a shamelessly derivative, techie crossbreed between Saw and the Ryan Reynolds thriller Buried. It wasn't a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it at least *looked* like a good movie rather than a cheap piece of crap. Definitely would've been something special in better hands, but it was good for a few odd laughs. I definitely would've enjoyed it more after a few shots. lol

6 Plot's version of Billy the Puppet... Laughing

The Jigsaw poster does look a bit promising. Billy the puppet has grown up <3 I can see what you mean about it bringing back the old nostalgic memories. I unfortunately never got to experience that feeling, having watched Saw after they all have been released.

Ok I FINALLY got the chance to see this today. Been hella busy/hungover this weekend to get a chance to see it, so it's been hard to avoid spoilers and the usual movie forums I visit. I mean hell, I got semi-spoiled from a comment on a reddit post totally unrelated to this movie, so, the struggle has been real Laughing

Anyway gonna do two reviews, one with my thoughts on the movie with lots of spoilers, and a general review with no spoilers:

Detailed review (with spoilers):

Spoiler:

NON SPOILER REVIEW:

Anyway, I'll give this a 7/10. And my new ranking would be:

1. Saw
2. Saw III
3. Saw VI
4. Saw II
5. Jigsaw
6. Saw IV
7. Saw V
8. Saw 3D

If you are a fan of the franchise, or if you have seen all 7 movies so far, you might as well watch this one too, for completeness' sake  lol. As a fan of the franchise I recommend it just for how different it feels from all 7 movies before. And while the twist was not as great as I was hoping it would be, it was not super absurd either, so if they make a sequel, hopefully they will fix that in it. I doubt non-fans would enjoy this movie at all though. So if you are not a Saw fan, you're not gonna be one after watching this movie either lol.

You should at least see Saw III, at least to complete the trilogy. The rest are more or less added fun for fans of the franchise. I do have a fondness for Saw VI despite its humanizing Jigsaw a bit too much. It's not necessary though, none of them are after the third installment. Betsy Russell, though: Not only is she gorgeous, but her character (Jigsaw's ex-wife) brings a heart (in the form of a likeable character to root for, after Jigsaw and Amanda ofc) to a franchise with despicable characters. I could've handled Saw VI being the final one, but then of course 7 has to come around and end things on a sour note. I've been watching some of her 80s stuff and she's electrifying... I'm glad I watched the Saw movies before those campy movies, though. Makes her more of a legit, respectable actress than simply a Scream queen I'm sure most horror fans know her as. She's great here.

I forgot to report that I actually kind of like Jigsaw as well, lol. Or did I in my reviews thread? I don't remember, but I'll say it here anyway. It helped that the trailer made it look worse than it really was, so I admit my expectations were far too low going into it. The movie was nothing too mind-blowing or stellar, but it was good for someone loving the Saw movies to see something new or added to that crazy franchise. I hear that Saw 9 is in the future (shockah!)... I wonder what its title will be or where they will go from here. Apparently they wrote Jigsaw with the intention of releasing more installments. We haven't gotten Jigsaw: In Space or the prequel of young Jigsaw as a demented child/teen/young adult yet, so there's always a story to be told. Gotta milk that cashcow while they can, you know. Laughing

Betsy <3

Yes, if you already watched the first 2, might as well watch the third to get a complete and great trilogy. Anything after 3 (except for 6) is really not that good. 6 would have been such an epic ending to the series if they only

Ugh, just gets me pissed off again to think that Saw 3D happened lol

Jigsaw was good. Watched it again a few weeks ago and could definitely feel how much more of a polished film it is compared to Saw 1-7. The ending feels weaker on a rewatch though and I wish

Spoiler:

Ugh I love the Saw movies so much and at the end of the day, even the bad movies feel like the messed up, disappointing children that I still have to learn to love and accept that they exist Laughing
