PostSubject: Ranking "The Fame" by Lady Gaga   Fri Mar 10, 2017 7:59 pm

Don't like it? Tough! It's my list! Going from least favorite to favorite. I've listened to each song at least twice, so I am justified in placing each song where I do.

14. Brown Eyes - Just because it's on the bottom of the album's list doesn't make it a bad song. In fact, it's not even a bad song to begin with. It just is SO forgettable that I could literally hear it and never remember what was even in the song.

13. I Like It Rough - I's in the same boat as Brown Eyes, so you could potentially call this interchangeable. What made me put this above Brown Eyes though is because I actually might be able to recognize the tone were I to randomly hear it on the radio or some shit.

12. Summerboy - Same as the last 2 songs, to be honest. This is actually interchangeable with I Like It Rough.

11. The Fame - This is the first song here where I KNOW I can recognize what it is, and for that reason, it stays out of the Bottom 3 for the album. However, while a decent song, I would never care if I never listened to it again because it wasn't exactly a memorable song. Also, the album with the same name as this song is some stiff competition, and considering this is the album's namesake, I was expecting more, so I can't put this any higher than 11th.

10. Money Honey - This you could actually interchange with "The Fame" because I had the same opinion as I did for "The Fame". What places this in the Top 10 though is the fact this isn't what the album is named after, so it didn't disappoint quite so much. I didn't expect much from this song.

9. Beautiful, Dirty, Rich - Some might argue this is a bit low, but hear me out. From this song and beyond on this list I really liked or loved. This was a fun song and it was fast-paced. However, I was left wanting more when the song ended, so that was disappointing. It could have stood to be closer to 4 minutes or especially 3 and a half. I just think this should have been more than 3 minutes.

8. StarStruck - This was the track that featured Flo Rida and Space Cowboy. To be fair, this is actually a nice song to listen to and I do enjoy listening to it. However, I can't rank this any higher because it does not stand out compared to the top half of the album. An argument could made to place this on the top half of the album, and I will have no qualms if you like this more than most other songs on "The Fame". In the end, the competition was just too fierce for StarStruck.

Top half coming later.

So now we are in the top half of "The Fame" by Lady Gaga. Judging by where I've placed songs and shit, while Henry and I can both listen to Lady Gaga for a damn long time, it's clear our favorites from Lady Gaga just aren't the same. The same will be self-evident in these choices here.

7. Poker Face - Alright, before you throw your tomatoes at this not being any higher, let me just say that in no way does me putting this in 7th place mean it's not a great song. In fact, just like how I can still tolerate Brown Eyes even though it is the weakest song on the album, I still think this is a great song to listen to despite it only being Number 7. It fits the mantra of casinos and poker quite marvelously and it's catchy. My main problem that keeps this song here and not higher is that it is also the BIGGEST COP-OUT IN THE ENTIRE ALBUM, and alongside Bad Romance, one of the biggest cop-outs Lady Gaga has. When people think Lady Gaga, there is no doubt in my mind one of those 2 songs will be the first ones to come up. So yeah, it's too safe to go any higher.

6. Love Game - Another one of the album big 4 will be taking 6th place, this time being Love Game. From this point forward, I love the songs that are left and they stand out to me in some way or fashion that is not as in your face as Poker Face. The line "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" is an obvious sexual innuendo done right (I'm looking at YOU, KP's "Peacock" Neutral ) and it runs with the risk, so this song really connects. The energy is astounding here too, so major props! However, the competition was too stiff, so this song just barely misses out on the Top 5.

5. Boys Boys Boys - I bet you weren't expecting THIS song to be this high, huh? Well, unlike most people, I've listened to the entire album, so I got to listen to this gem. It has a refreshing high school vibe to it that really makes me happy and it would really fit the classy high school girl trope like a champ if this were an intro song for a version of Regina George who would command men to do her bidding. Also, the fact that I still love listening to this even though it was never a single gave it major points, giving it just enough to pass Love Game and blast its way onto my Top 5 for the album.

4. Paparazzi - The 3rd of the Big 4 to be knocked out, we have Paparazzi. There's just something about this song that really draws me in and never wants to let go. ALMOST like a paparazzi! It's a very dynamic song with smooth transitions in tone that is very risky to do, but it pulls it off so well. In listening order, it's right after Love Game, so it's also a bit of a chill down after an upbeat song in Love Game and it can be really relaxing. However, it misses out on the podium, but I won't complain even if you have this as your favorite song of the album.

3. Paper Gangsta - I'll be honest: At first, I didn't like this. When I first listened to this, I thought it was lifeless and dull. However, after listening to it again and hearing it at the beginning of the music video in "Telephone", this song grew on me in a way that would make King Kong jealous. I mean, these are some savage lyrics if I ever heard any. She straight up tells you that she doesn't want someone who isn't serious about her. If you really want her, you'd better work for her, and that is really what this song is conveying here. This is a song that means business, and once I gave this song the fair chance it deserves, I found myself humming along. You're not going to find many songs like this from Lady Gaga and it is a song that, after much deliberation, deserves a medal from this album.

2. Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) - By placing this song here, you know what my top pick is, but let's get into this song first. Remember when I was talking about a chill down in Paparazzi? Well, in this song, it's both a chill song AND an upbeat song packaged into one! It's also very modest and very different from Lady Gaga. It's not too focused on wanting sex, clubbing, or gambling. It's a more personal song and the music feels very warm. What got this above Paper Gangsta is that, unlike the other song, I never had to grow into this song to love it. I loved it from the gate and never stopped loving the song. There is one thing that kept this song from winning the album, which I will explain in the final song on this countdown.

WINNER: Just Dance - Yep, of all the songs on this album, none speak to me more than this song right here. When a lot of people think Gaga, they will think about Bad Romance or Poker Face. However, what introduced me to Gaga and plays a big part in what makes Gaga such an icon is this song right here! This is one of the songs that became an anthem to me in my senior year of high school, so I hold this song dear to my heart. When I come back to this album, I always make sure to come back to this song! No other song in the album has that effect on me, and when I rank albums, that is one of the key factors you need for me to rank you Number 1. No other song in "The Fame" makes me feel so nostalgic, so sentimental, so taken back, or so remembered as Just Dance, so I could not justify putting any other song in this spot.

Hope you enjoyed the countdown! Hopefully I did enough to explain why I placed everything where I did. Actually, at one point last year, I was supposed to rank all the non-singles of Lady Gaga, but the person I collaborated with never got around to publishing, so that actually kind of helped make this possible. Laughing See y'all later!
